With the exception of knowing how the new 2016 Acura NSX supercar drives, most of the details have been drip-fed to the media. At the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) World Congress in Detroit, even more details were leaked about the Acura NSX. It will output north of 550 horse power although the exact figure isn’t known yet. However there is information that the Acura supercar redux will begin in the $150,000 price range. We also know how the powertrain will transfer the power from 3 electric motors and the V6 twin-turbocharged engine to the road.

The NSX will include Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) like most other modern Acuras. What makes the NSX unique is the 3 electric motors 3.5 liter V6 twin-turbo. Two of the motors act on the front axle, each motor driving one front wheel and a planetary gear set. At the rear, the largest of the electric motors is interlaced between the 9 speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the engine. The dual-clutch acts directly on the crankshaft of the engine. As per Acura engineers, a unique 75-degree V angle is being used to compensate for the balancing-shaft-free V-6 engine. Apparently there will be no impact on durability as one might expect. The 2016 NSX will also make use of a limited-slip differential at the rear.

The NSX will have a total of 10 heat exchangers, according to Acura. The V6 makes use of 3 radiators mounted at the front and two intercoolers mounted at the side. Heat dissipation from the transmission is taken care of by two exchangers. Direct air flow and a dedicated heat exchanger cool the two electric motors at the front. The coolers for the condenser and power drive units are fitted in front of the engine radiator that is central front mounted.

Acura has finally revealed their closely held secret on the special casting technology for the NSX. Known as “ablation” casting, it combines regular casting techniques with rapid cooling which provides rigidity of casting. The NSX also carries design flexibility that offers energy absorption and ductility properties of an extruded material. In other words, while traditional casting can be brittle, the ablation method eliminates the brittleness. Molten aluminium is poured into a water-soluble cast, which is instantly washed away (ablated) using water jets. This quickly cools the metal. Acura used this method since traditional sand casting and didn’t produce the large hollow cast-aluminium structural nodes, which are capable of absorbing crash energy.

As mentioned earlier, the base price of the 2015 NSX will be in the $150,000 range. As for when it will be on sale, the best answer provided is sometime later this year. More details available at Chapman Acura.

When looking to get a luxury car or a sports car, one will usually have to think of two different cars. All-too-often, when you get into a luxury car, you will have that luxury feeling, but you won’t have the sporty car feel, and this is a shame for many drivers. Acura knows this, and the company released the Acura TLX 3.5. This is half sport and half luxury, and this is a car that pleases many drivers.

Why it feels like a sports car:

From the inside, when sitting in the car and looking at the road, this car does not feel like the average luxury car. No, while it is still comfortable and roomy for the average motorist, this car has a different feel. For starters, under the hood, you will have more power than most mid-sized luxury cars. You can get a 2.4 liter 206-horsepower four-cylinder model. Or, you can get a V-6 with 290 horsepower and a nine-speed automatic transmission. With either option, you’ll feel enough horsepower for your driving style.

If you get the nine-speed automatic transmission, and you should, you will enjoy the console-mounted push buttons, which gives you the sporty feel, all while giving you the comfort of an automatic. If you prefer, you can use the steering wheel paddles as they can give you more control over the car.

Finally, if you spring for the V-6, you can get Acura’s famous  Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive (SH-AWD). With this, the Acura TLX becomes the sports car you’ve always wanted, with power, luxury and superb handling. Stop by Chapman Acura for a test drive and see for yourself.

Why it feels like a luxury car:

When you sit behind the wheel, you won’t necessarily feel like you are in a sports car, until you start moving. If you opt for the technology package, you will enjoy leather seats. They offer lateral and lumbar support that will make your long drives or short commute comfortable. There are also two LCD screens in the middle of the instrument panel. This eight-inch unit provides you with audio and navigation information. The smaller seven-inch touchscreen allows you to control everything, all with little effort on your end.

If you buy a luxury car, you probably want to feel safe behind the wheel, and Acura didn’t forget this. There are numerous driver aids including forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, blind spot camera and a rear view camera, along with adoptive cruise control.

If you want a sports car with added luxury, consider the Acura TLX, available now at Chapman Acura.

2015 Acura MDX

Acura saw a sharp increase in sales towards the end of 2014. Oil prices have plummeted and U.S customers have more disposable income. Also, U.S. drivers have decided to spend their extra money on cars that are more expensive. This is great news for luxury brands by Acura. While luxury cars only make up 10% of the worldwide market, they contribute almost 20% of revenues and 33% in overall profits to automakers.

The increase in sales is due to the new Acura TLX, launched in August of 2014. Then by the year’s end, Acura had sold over 19,000 Acura TLX units. That figure is higher than a full year of Acura’s 2nd best seller, the ILX. This boom in sales resulted in a 1.5% year over year increase, as well as being Acura’s best sales year since 2007.

Acura has a strong presence in the SUV market, which is the fastest growing segment in the U.S. auto market. Almost two thirds of Acura’s sales were in the SUV segment. The MDX was Acura’s bestseller in the SUV segment in 2014 and resulted in almost 40% of the brand’s sales. The year 2014 was the bestselling year for Acura. The company sold over 65,000 units, which is a 27% increase over 2013’s figures. The RDX also had a great year, selling over 45,000 units and accounting for 27%of the brand’s complete sales.

Sales are continuing to be strong for January 2015 and beyond. Acura had its best January sales since 2007, following closely on the record breaking sales of the MDX, RDX and TLX. In January 2015, MDX sales increased by 3.3% and RDX increased by 28%. The TSX outsold its previous two versions by 28%. The trend is continuing in February 2015 where MDX and RDX sales have risen by 12.5% over the same time last year.

The prospects look good for Acura and dealerships such as Chapman Acura, to continue having a record-breaking year. The luxury car market is expected to grow by 10% in 2015. Low gas prices, low interest rates and consumer confidence at a 7 year high, are all factors will likely contribute to a successful year for Acura.

Eventually your Acura vehicle will need some type of repair or maintenance. At that time, you have to decide if you’re going to take it to the dealership or have the work done at a local repair shop. Each has its own advantages. But for this article, we are going to look at the work done by the dealership.

The advantage of taking your Acura vehicle to be serviced at an Acura dealership is that highly skilled and factory-trained technicians study and train in the proper maintenance of Acura vehicles. The mechanical technicians also study repair techniques specifically for Acura vehicles and as such, are the best to service them.

It may be tempting to have a local repair shop do maintenance and repairs on your Acura vehicle. Initially it might save time and money, but you will eventually end up with conflicting recommendations. In addition you will often receive information that is not correct for an Acura service timeframe, due to inconsistent records.

While having work done at a local repair shop might be more convenient, keep in mind that it is the dealership service department that honors the manufacturer and extended warranties free to their customers. Local repair shops usually have to order parts, and shipping costs will be passed on to the customer. It could also result in lengthy delays in getting your vehicle back. However the dealership would have many spare parts on hand, making repairs much quicker.

Your local Acura dealer will have state-of-the-art equipment and technology to help maintain your vehicle in a like-new condition. They also only use Acura approved parts in your vehicle.

Other reasons to only have your Acura vehicle serviced at an Acura dealership, like Chapman Acura are:

– They repair all Acura vehicles, irrespective of year, model or mileage.
– Up to date dealership training is only given to dealership staff directly from America Acura.
– They have the most up to date technical resources for any Acura vehicle model and year.
– Genuine Acura parts only. Rest assured that they will fit correctly, function in the right way and last a long time.
– With a large inventory, parts are always on hand or workers can retrieve them overnight in worst-case scenarios.

Dealerships work with you to keep your vehicle in the best possible working condition because they know it is an important investment for you. When dealerships offer technicians, they often will take a ride with you before and after repairs to make sure you are completely satisfied.

Technicians also provide quality control checks on warranty work, and you can rest easy that your vehicle will be fixed the right way the first time.

Dealerships also guarantee your maintenance and repair work. Most Acura dealerships grow by a limited 12 months or 12,000 miles warranty, whichever comes first.
